Infosys foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy donated INR 20lac to Mysuru Zoo for its maintenance. The foundation has earlier also donated another INR 20 lac to the zoo in the month of May 2020.

The zoo director appreciated Murthy’s generosity in helping the institution amid Covid-19. As per zoo officials, it requires INR 2cr every month towards the feeding, maintenance and salary of the staff. The zoo is home to more than 1,400 mammals’ birds and reptiles including exotic species.

The 126 year old zoo had been self-reliant institution since 2002, sustaining itself on the money raised from the gate ticket collection until due to the pandemic nationwide lockdown was induced. However having remained shut for months due to lockdown incomes have taken a hit, the institution is facing a crippling crash crunch.

The animal adaptation scheme introduced by the zoo’s former executive director Kumar Pushkar two decades back has also been launched again to mop up the resources for the institution. So far 4600 people have adopted 5,895 birds and animals fetching INR 814cr. stated the zoo officials.
