The sixth victim in the blast that occurred at a quarry in Hunasodu of Shivamogga district was a worker at the mine, said inspector-general of police (eastern range) S Ravi on Monday. “We think he was from Bhadravathi,” he said. The six teams constituted to probe the blast had been carrying out raids on mines across Shivamogga district, he said. “They have found explosives at some sites. The site is rather large in area and it is bound to take time to collect evidence .”
The IGP refused to share information about those who had been arrested in connection with the blast. Shivamogga district minister KS Eshwarappa, who chaired a meeting of the administration on Monday, sought a report on quarries operating illegally. Shivamogga deputy commissioner KB Sivakumar informed the minister that there were 76 quarries across Shivamogga, besides 97 stone-crushing units.
