Mysuru to host Kannada lit fest after nearly 3 decades

Mysuru: The Kannada Sahitya Sammelan will be held in Mysuru after 27 years. Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) may host the 83rd edition of the literary festival in the last week of June.The district administration on Friday started working for the mega literary meet, which has come back to the city after nearly three decades.DC D Randeep convened a preliminary meeting with KSP district president Y D Rajanna and members to discuss the programmes to be charted out for the festival.Due to health reasons, district minister H C Mahadevappa could not attend the meeting. Randeep, who led the meeting, told the mediapersons that the convention will be held either in the last week of June or first week of July."As Dasara celebrations will start in September and Vishwa Kannada Sahitya Sammelan will be held in November in Davanagere, the date for Kannada Sammelan has been tentatively fixed in June," Randeep said.Even though the venue for the meet is yet to be decided, there are indications that it will be held at Dasara exhibition grounds, given that the spacious premises is at the city centre.Randeep said that the government has provided Rs 4 crore for the previous sammelan, which was held in Raichur. "This year, the government has provided Rs 5 crore. The money will be raised for the convention from other sources too. The reception committee comprising public representatives will be set up soon. The venue and the president of the convention will be finalized only after discussions with chief minister Siddaramaiah and Mahadevappa," he said.Randeep said that the next meeting for the sammelan, led by minister Mahadevappa, will be held on April 27 at ZP auditorium. Litterateurs, public representatives, office bearers of pro-Kannada organizations, artistes, and KSP members are expected to attend the meet.MLA M K Somashekar said that the mega literary event, which is being held in the city after nearly three decades, will be held in a grand manner.
