Mysuru: Mysuru, which is the hub for film shoots, is all set to get Film City soon. The facility, which was announced by chief minister Siddaramaiah in the last state budget, will come up on 110acre at Himmavu village. The process of handing over the land to the department of tourism has completed.Film City has been the long-standing demand of Sandalwood filmmakers. Mysuru has contributed immensely to the growth of Kannada film industry for many decades now. Hollywood movie 'Blue Stone' and Bollywood movie 'Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje' (directed by V Shantharam) have been shot in Mysuru.S V Rajendra Singh Babu, Sandalwood director and chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, hails from Mysuru. Babu said that a global tender will be called to build Film City on a public-private partnership model. Mysuru has over 250 locations within 15-20km, and this makes the city conducive for having Film City. With increased traffic and growing population, shooting in Bengaluru has become a Herculean task. But Mysuru offers peaceful atmosphere ideal for film shoots.Many structures and places, including Mysuru Palace, Lalit Mahal, Chamundi Hills, Balmuri, Yedmuri, Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, Shivanasamudra, Kukkarahalli and Karajanji lakes and Manasagagotri campus, are favourite spots for Sandalwood directors.Mysuru-based director Manju Swaraj, who has directed movies like 'Shravani Subramanya' and 'Sreekanta', said: "Film sets catering to historical, mythological and social themes need to be put up in Film City. The authorities must visit the facility which was established in Bangkok recently. Film City should not have only houses, roads and buildings. Replicas of forest, ponds, vintage cars, bikes and artistic walls should also be built there to make shooting hassle-free. In keeping pace with the fast-changing technology, they must renew the structures as it will attract filmmakers across the country to Film City. The government should include experts from the industry before finalizing the modalities of the project."
