Karnataka minister's son summoned to court in Mysuru graft case

MYSURU: Two months after Karnataka high court quashed decision of a city court of arraigning Sunil Bose and his assistant Raju in 2010- graft case, the III additional district and sessions court on Tuesday served notices to the duo to appear before the court on July 25.The court has again asked why they shouldn't be tried in the case.Sunil Bose is son of PWD Minister HC Mahadevappa, who is also Mysuru district in charge minister.The high court had quashed the city court's order two months back saying it is premature to book the petitioners Sunil Bose and Raju when the trial is in the primary stage. Both Sunil and Raju were arraigned by the city court in September 2016 and were being examined in the graft case wherein then senior geologist VJ Alphonsus was caught by Lok Ayuktha sleuths while he was taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh from complainant Basavaraj.Basavaraj's advocates S Lokesh and R Gangadhar said the court on Tuesday served notices asking them to appear before the court on July 25. After examination and cross-examination of complainant Basavaraj, the court is convinced that there is enough evidence against Bose and Raju to prove that the official took money at the behest of Sunil Bose. Judge S Sudhindranath on Tuesday issued notices to the duo, confirmed Lokesh.Special public prosecutor PP Muthamma Muthamma cross examined complainant Basavaraj.State Government has recently appointed Sunil Bose as head of a Housing committee in T Narasipura Assembly Segment that is represented by his father HC Mahadevappa, a minister.VJ Alphonsus, an official attached to department of Mines and Geology, Mysuru, was caught red-handed while he receiving bribe from Basavaraj on March 27, 2010. The senior geologist had demanded Rs 1 lakh to issue permit to transport sand. Alphonsus was trapped by Benglauru Lok Ayuktha cops at his Kuvempunagar's residence. Though the official told the investigating officer that he took money on behalf of Sunil but the latter's name was dropped at the time of submitting chargesheet in 2013. Alphonsus was charged under provision of Corruption of Prevention Act.Sources claimed Sunil's father Mahadevappa was then a legislator and may have used his influence to rescue son."Complainant Basavaraj, who worked as manager with at a transport firm, took objections to it and petitioned the court seeking its intervention in this regard.
