More students opting for non-traditional courses

MYSURU: When it comes to making a career decision, many students are opting for non-traditional courses. "Till last year we were conducting Sugama Sangeetha (light music) certificate course classes in Mandya and Honnavara. "We are waiting for total numbers of applications for Veena course to decide on his application," he said.Niranjana Vanalli informed that last year BA Music course had 20 students. Last year 29 students took MA (Music) course. Increasing demand for various music and performing arts related courses in the city is the best example for this.Compared to previous years, the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing arts University of the city has received good response for various courses in this academic year.

Increasing demand for various music and performing arts related courses in the city is the best example for this.Compared to previous years, the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing arts University of the city has received good response for various courses in this academic year. Certificate, Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses offered by the university are in high demand this year.Speaking to Times of India, Niranjana Vanalli , Registrar of the university informed that one of the highlights of this year's admission process is a guitarist from Germany who has applied for the university seeking an opportunity to learn Veena. "We are waiting for total numbers of applications for Veena course to decide on his application," he said.Niranjana Vanalli informed that last year BA Music course had 20 students. But this year this number has moved up to 31 students. "As per the original schedule, July 14 was the last date for applying for BA courses. But keeping in mind increased demand we have extended the last date till Monday. For MA in Music course, July 25 is the last date to apply. Till now 23 students have been admitted to the course. Last year 29 students took MA (Music) course. We are expecting more students this year. We are happy that waves of music are heard everywhere," he explained.Vanalli also stated that following the huge demand for the certificate courses, the university has decided to introduce certificate course in Carnatic music also. "Till last year we were conducting Sugama Sangeetha (light music) certificate course classes in Mandya and Honnavara. But following the increased demand by the interested music lovers, the university is introducing certificate course in Carnatic music in both these centres," he signed off.Presently Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing arts University is offering six months certificate, two years diploma, three years UG and two years PG courses in various music and performing arts subjects.
