MYSURU: Mysore City Corporation (MCC) health section officers on Tuesday raided two wine shops near the city private bus terminus in RMC yard for selling alcohol since 6 am.

MYSURU: Mysore City Corporation (MCC) health section officers on Tuesday raided two wine shops near the city private bus terminus in RMC yard for selling alcohol since 6 am. But district excise department officials have made it clear that they don't have any clue about these raids.On Tuesday morning, MCC team headed by the health officer D G Nagaraju raided Chamundi Wines and SB Wines opposite to private bus terminal following complaints received from the general public that both the wine stores have been selling alcohol since 6 am. "As per the rules, wine stores can start selling alcohol beverages only after 10 am. But both these stores were open at 6 am," explained D G Nagaraju. "Poor labourers who arrive at the private bus terminus in search of jobs were the primary customers of these two stores. These wine stores are near a college and close to residential areas. Following the complaints by the general public, we conducted a raid, " he said."We warned the wine store owners that if they continue to open the wine stores before 10 am MCC will initiate action. We will write to the excise department and DC officer recommending action against the early opening of the wine stores,' he said. He also informed that MCC team will keep an eye on all wine stores which open before the stipulated time. But when Mysuru district's Deputy Commissioner of Excise Jagadish Naik was contacted, he said that he is not aware of any raid by MCC officials. "As per the rules wine stores can't open before 10 am," he said.
