Mysuru: The Glass House will soon be the new tourist attraction in the city.Authorities hope to attract more tourists by developing Mysuru's first Glass House where they want to organize flower shows through the year.Kuppanna Park or Nishat Bagh , which is close to the Mysuru Palace, will house the Glass House being developed on the lines of the 128-year-old Glass House in Lalbagh, Bengaluru. It's expected to be ready by December-end.The authorities chose Nishat Bagh because it's located in the heart of the city and is spacious with adequate parking space. It is located close to popular tourist spots - Mysuru Zoo and Mysuru Palace — and is spread over 10 acres. The park comes alive during Dasara festival as 10-day flower show is organized here.Some of the exotic plants cannot be exhibited in the open area and officials had difficulties in displaying such rare plants on the occasion. The Glass House will give them an opportunity to have flower shows all through the year. Nishat Bagh was designed in the late 19th century, after the original Mysore Palace burned down in 1892. It became popular as Kuppanna Park because a gardener named Kuppanna maintained the park for more than two decades.The horticulture department has taken up the Rs 7.18-crore project and civil works have been handed over to the Public Works Department. Bengaluru-based Nikitha Build-Tech Pvt Ltd is assisting the PWD in designing the structure.Unlike Glass Houses in Bengaluru and Hubballi, the Glass House here will be round. The structure will be 36 metres in diameter, 21 m high with 1.5 m retaining wall and steps on all four sides. There will be a raised platform in the middle where authorities plan to arrange flowers based on different themes like in Dasara, explained Thimmaraju, assistant deputy director, horticulture department.A 3.52 mm thick glass sheet will be used on all sides. It will have a 6 m high wall with sloped roof, dome and secondary dome. The structural work may be completed by December.The horticulture department also plans to renovate the musical fountain in the park. Shows will be scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, while there will be a daily attraction during the Dasara season. In all, 21 songs - Kannada folk and Sandalwood hits — will be played in the background. The garden will be beautified with flowering plants on the lines of Brindavan Gardens at the Krishana Raja Sagar dam.The octagonal bandstand built by Maharajas is another major attraction at the park.
