CHAMARAJANAGARA: In the wake of the Centre giving a green signal for the 1,560-acre industrial park, set to come up near the district headquarters, Chamarajanagar appears to be gearing up for a sea of economic opportunities. With the industrial park expected to generate employment for around 25,000 people directly, and around 10,000 indirectly, the industrial park holds the possibility of altering Chamarajanagar's economic landscape Sources in the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), which has been entrusted the responsibility of developing the park, said that the land had been acquired from Badanaguppe and Kellamballi villages. " Chief minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for the park in 2015. But, due to environmental concerns, there were delays in the project taking off. But, with the central government issuing conditional clearance, KIADB can start work," sources said.An official from the department of industries and commerce told TOI, "Owing to the delay in obtaining environmental clearance, many investors who evinced interest early on were discouraged. Now that the project has been cleared, we can expect industries to come up in Chamarajanagar, which is one of the least developed districts in the state."Senior officials opined that many industries would have been up and running by now had the Centre accorded clearance. "The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) even organised a road show in Coimbatore in association with the Chamarajanagar unit in anticipation of work starting on the park. While many industrialists had made commitments, many have taken their business elsewhere," they added.Member of the District Industry Centre A Jayasimha , also the president of the District Small Scale Industry Association , said that the area where the park has been proposed is now connected through good roads, besides other basic facilities such as drinking water and electricity being provided.
