‘Conference a platform to discuss problems affecting state’

Mysuru: The 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be a platform wherein problems that the state is currently faced with will be deliberated on, said Mysuru zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat YD Rajanna on Tuesday. "Besides Karnataka, we expect people from neighbouring states - Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh - to be a part of the conference. "He added, "Those who have leveled charges of corruption against me will be given a reply at the right forum. Everyone has the right to his or her opinion, and I have mine." Rajanna, who is also the general secretary of the empowered panel headed by the district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa for the sammelana, said that the conference aimed to provide solutions to the problems that the state was grappling with by looking at them from a different perspective.

Rajanna, who is also the general secretary of the empowered panel headed by the district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa for the sammelana, said that the conference aimed to provide solutions to the problems that the state was grappling with by looking at them from a different perspective."A procession will be carried out from the Kote Anjaneya temple on the inaugural day of the sammelana, wherein around 116 cultural troupes will participate," he said.Rajanna said that around 1.5 lakh people were expected to participate in the conference. "Besides Karnataka, we expect people from neighbouring states - Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh - to be a part of the conference. Around 10,500 people have already registered for the meet, and we have arranged for accommodation for 8,500 of them," he said.Affirming that arrangements had been made to ensure all participants would get sufficient food, he said, "We have set up four separate food counters for the delegates. The general public will be given food at the Scouts and Guides grounds."Responding to the controversy around the Kannada Theru, which saw allegations of financial irregularity being leveled at the organisers owing to its similarity to a ratha used for Shivarathri Rajendra's centenary celebrations, Rajanna said, "We have not released funds for the publicity vehicle. We will only give the artist Rs 15,000 for expenses incurred."He added, "Those who have leveled charges of corruption against me will be given a reply at the right forum. Everyone has the right to his or her opinion, and I have mine."
