Cops probing Rs94 cr fraud in 21 Dena Bank accounts

Nagpur: The Dharampeth branch of Dena Bank has suffered a loss of around Rs94 crore through 21 loan accounts, which turned Non-Performing Asset (NPA) after the account holders resorted to various tricks to dupe the bank. In October 2015, Amdare and others applied for loans from Dena Bank. City police crime branch has registered offences in two such cases at Sitabuldi police station on Monday, and already taken one person into custody.In the first case, crime branch slapped charges of cheating and forgery against 11 persons for duping the bank of Rs3.46 crore. Police have also booked Mehul Dubabiya, who owned M/s Adinath Industries and Trading Corporations. After the loan was sanctioned, Rs2.4 crore were transferred to Wagh’s account through demand draft.

Prabhakar Amdare, one of the accused, along with Ashok Shindekar, Bharat Raje and others is learnt to have entered into an agreement with Satish Wagh to transfer a piece of land at Dhawlamethi near Wadi on the city outskirts.Wagh was also paid some token amount as advance for the deal while entering into the agreement. In October 2015, Amdare and others applied for loans from Dena Bank. After the loan was sanctioned, Rs2.4 crore were transferred to Wagh’s account through demand draft. Amdare and others had got another Rs41.15 lakh loan disbursed for constructing a building on the plot they had purchased.The police probe found the accused had hiked the market value of the plot by Rs1.59 crore as compared to the rate evaluated by the government valuer. It also came to fore that the loan seekers had duped the bank by not constructing anything on the plot, and misusing the loan procured for the purpose.DCP, crime, Sambhaji Kadam said some bank officials and chartered accountants too are under the scanner. They are likely to be booked for collusion with the culprits. “Substantial public money was lost through trickery and cheating, which warranted the incisive police probe,” said Kadam at a press conference in Gittikhadan on Monday.In the other case, crime branch has come across details of frauds that left Dena Bank poorer by at least Rs2 crore.Seven persons, including owner of Ma Anusuya Trading Company Dilip Kalele, his nephew Sameer Chatte, who was co-owner of Arena Industries, have been booked in the case. Police have also booked Mehul Dubabiya, who owned M/s Adinath Industries and Trading Corporations. The owner of Ma Tulja Bhavani Trading Corporation too has been booked in the case registered at Sitabuldi police station.Police said cash credit of Rs2 crore, which was allegedly fraudulently procured by Kalele, was diverted to the accounts of various trading companies named in the FIR, instead of being used to expand the business, for which the loan was procured.
