‘Make India taxpayer friendly country’

Nagpur: With hope in their eyes and pride in their chest, the 172 newly promoted assistant commissioners of income tax (ACsIT) completed their two-month training at National Academy of Direct Taxes ( NADT ) and took tax administrators oath at valedictory function ‘Uttarayan 2018’, on Wednesday.The ACsIT, all of whom are former income tax officers, had come to Nagpur from across the nation to undergo training and will soon join offices assigned to them.Air vice-marshal Manvendra Singh, senior air and admin staff officer (Saaso) at Headquarters Maintenance Command, was the chief guest of the function, and congratulated the fresh batch of officers who passed out. “Tax administrators are crucial for a rapidly growing economy like India since they lead the nation on the path of growth and prosperity,” he said.Singh exhorted these officers to put in their best efforts to increase the low tax base of the country. “Tax administration is an onerous task and the challenges are momentous since the economy is increasing with every passing hour. The responsibility of making India a taxpayer friendly country lies on your shoulder,” he said.In his welcome address, principal director general of NADT PS Puniha urged the officers to maintain the relationship they built during training as it will take them a long way professionally.“Tax evasion is no more an individual effort but one which involves many. To counter this, the officers need to work together as it is only through such efforts that success can be achieved. The friendships blossomed here will be with you throughout your life, personally and professionally,” he said.While some officers were elated to go home, many were enthusiastic to start a fresh chapter in life. He said, “The training helped him become a better person.”Talking to TOI, he said, “I always felt indebted to our country and wanted to serve it by becoming a police officer. But I could not pursue it due to physical disability. Today, after the valediction, the zeal has definitely doubled and I will resume duties with greater excitement.”Other dignitaries present at the function were Nausheen Ansari and Leena Srivastava, additional director generals of training and V Roy Jose, additional director and course director of training.
