However, the NMC says its doesn’t have money to acquire the lake, raising a big question. Actually, NMC’s vested interest has delayed the lake acquisition process. The NMC had spent Rs3.24 crore for its rejuvenation and Rs18.25 crore have been approved for it. “We are just completing the process which is not a contempt of HC’s orders,” he said. It is learnt, the compensation amount will be less so the NMC is trying its best to grant TDR,” he said.Assistant director of town planning Pramod Gawande said NMC will not submit its report to the UDD till the HC’s decision.

Nagpur: Despite getting deadline of May 2 from the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, the state’s urban development department (UDD) has failed to submit its say on the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) process to change reservation of Sonegaon lake from water body to a project.Meanwhile, the civic body has resumed the process of changing reservation for granting transfer of developmental rights (TDR) to the owners of the lake for its acquisition.Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activists Prashant Pawar and TH Naidu, the HC had directed the UDD to give an hearing to the petitioners and the NMC to decide whether reservation of the lake should be changed and TDR can be granted for a water body.Petitioners’ advocate A Kesari confirmed that UDD is yet to submit any report to the HC.In December last year, the activists and citizens had submitted their suggestions and objections on the NMC’s plan to change the reservation and grant TDR to the owners of the lake. The NMC town planning department has sent letters to the activists and citizens a couple of days ago, asking them to remain present for a hearing on July 24 and 25.The NMC had stopped the process after the HC imposed stay on it. Naidu told TOI that NMC’s decision to resume the process has raised serious suspicion. “On one hand the UDD is not complying with the HC’s orders and on the other hand the civic body is resuming the process despite HC’s stay.“Instead of giving compensation, the NMC is keen to give TDR to owners of the 16.42 hectares lake. Actually, NMC’s vested interest has delayed the lake acquisition process. The NMC had spent Rs3.24 crore for its rejuvenation and Rs18.25 crore have been approved for it. However, the NMC says its doesn’t have money to acquire the lake, raising a big question. It is learnt, the compensation amount will be less so the NMC is trying its best to grant TDR,” he said.Assistant director of town planning Pramod Gawande said NMC will not submit its report to the UDD till the HC’s decision. “We are just completing the process which is not a contempt of HC’s orders,” he said.
