Chandrapur: District sports office has filed criminal offence against 12 educational institutions and organizations for embezzlement of grants. The institutions have been charged for cheating the government by not utilizing the allocated grants and peculating it.The institutions that have been booked include four from Saoli tehsil, three from Mul tehsil, two each from Jiwti and Korpana and one from Chandrapur tehsil.District collectorate had approved grants to 12 institutions and organizations under gymnasium development, playground development and youth welfare schemes in 2008. These institutions were expected to utilize the funds on the said aspects within two years.However, the institutes did not utilize the funds in the given period. After a stared question was raised in state assembly on the issue, district sports office investigated the matter and issued a letter seeking recovery of funds from the defaulter institution. The institution was asked to deposit the sum with the government through bank challan. None of them reimbursed the embezzled funds after which commissioner, directorate of sports and youths services, Pune directed deputy director, Nagpur divisional sports and youths services to conduct an inquiry against these institutions and submit a report.The report on the matter was submitted on March 17 to Pune based sports and youth directorate. The commissioner, on July 16, directed to file criminal complaint against the 12 defaulter institutions.
