Nagpur: In a major relief to thousands, the work on widening and asphalting of road from Hingna to Mihan will begin before October. Parts of the road and a small bridge on it are in dire need of repair and road-suers say they pose a major threat during monsoon.Students of GH Raisoni Vidyaniketan and Cummins College of Engineering among others use the road daily and last week’s heavy downpour left the road in a bad condition. Raisoni management has been following up with authorities for many years as the narrow bridge gets flooded whenever water levels rise during heavy rains.Sameer Meghe, the local MLA, said, “Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is now taking care of the road and work will be started soon.” Meghe added that tender had already been floated for the project.Sunil Gujjalwar, chief engineer of NIT, confirmed the development and said that tender will be awarded soon. “I think in the next 15 days, the contract will be awarded and work will start soon after,” he said.Gujjalwar however did not link the project to the poor condition of the bridge and parts of the road. “The decision was made about two months ago and our mandate was to connect it to Mihan. The road starts opposite Gupta restaurant and goes up to Mihan. The length is approximately 3 kms. There are two bridges also on the road and everything will be included in the project,” said Gujjalwar.Jayshree Bhake, principal of Raisoni Vidyaniketan, said, “I do hope this time the road gets repaired and we can travel safely. We have been hearing about road construction for a long time but nothing moved forward.”
