Restore dug up roads by Saturday, civic chief tells agencies

Taking cognizance of TOI’s report, the civic chief directed the fire department to ensure all high-rise buildings in the city follow fire safety measures. Nagpur: Municipal commissioner Virendra Singh on Thursday directed officials to take legal action against agencies responsible for digging city’s roads without requisite permission. Recently, TOI had highlighted that NMC’s fire and emergency services department had declared 782 buildings unsafe and also issued instructions to OCW and NMC’s water works department to disconnect water supplies to 372 high-rise buildings.Similarly, MSEDCL and SNDL too were instructed to disconnect power connections to these buildings. He also ordered the agenices to restore the roads by Saturday.At a review meeting of NMC’s coordination committee held on Thursday, Singh also directed the civic administration to speed up Rs 45 lakh proposal of railways to repair retaining wall of railway line between Kalamna and Nagpur that has developed cracks at many places and is posing threat to people residing nearby.The civic chief also expressed concern over high-rises ignoring fire safety measures and directed officials to ensure power and water supplies of such unsafe buildings is disconnected.
