Nagpur: Senior academicians in the city are planning to approach the education department and press for reverting to offline admission procedure for Std XI.The current online format started in Nagpur from 2017-18 academic session and many junior colleges have complained about flaws in the system. Some even dragged the education department to court over quota allocation issues in the online admission software.A principal, who is also member of the Headmasters Association (HA), said, “There are multiple issues with online and they (education department) may not like us opposing it openly, but it has to be done before next year. The software is completely managed from Pune and there is no one in Nagpur who is handling it, which means that our complaints go unheeded.”A group of senior principals is looking at ways to get the education department to revert to offline admission method. “We could write to the education department but then usually such letters end up in the bin. There has to be a proper plan in place through which we can convince the authorities that our Nagpur’s offline admission system was much better,” said a principal.Another academician said the offline system’s strong point was that it was completely centralized. “CAP was introduced so that students do not have to rush to dozens of colleges and fill forms everywhere. In Nagpur, we had a centralized physical form submission process with the data being entered in the software,” the principal said.“The merit rankings were drawn up based on Std X marks and admissions would start again through a centralized system. For over a decade, this system continued without any glitches and it’s very sad that we had to close it and follow Mumbai and Pune’s method,” the principal added.
