MCI team inspects GMCH for MBBS seats

It was informed that there were efforts to increase MBBS seats looking at the increasing number of patients. On Monday morning, the MCI team comprising Dr D D Dattaroy, Dr Kavita Rajratan, Dr Jugalkishor Kar and Dr A K Pande arrived at the GMCH. Nagpur: A team Medical Council of India (MCI) paid a surprise visit to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Nagpur on Monday to inspect the viability of providing accredition to 200 seats of MBBS. At present, the GMCH has 35 professors, 106 associate professors, 170 assistant professors, 80 resident doctors and 400 junior resident doctors. The GMCH has a provision of 200 seats for MBBS course.

Nagpur: A team Medical Council of India (MCI) paid a surprise visit to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Nagpur on Monday to inspect the viability of providing accredition to 200 seats of MBBS. The team comprising four doctors started at 9 am and inspected OPD, IPD, hostel and other departments. They also inspected a public health centre in Saoner. The GMCH has a provision of 200 seats for MBBS course. For this, the MCI accredition has to be secured every year and all the 200 seats are filled on the parameters set by the MCI. The GMCH administration has been preparing for this MCI visit since last month. On Monday morning, the MCI team comprising Dr D D Dattaroy, Dr Kavita Rajratan, Dr Jugalkishor Kar and Dr A K Pande arrived at the GMCH. After a discussion at the Dean’s office, they separately inspected OPD, IPD, different wards, operation theatre, trauma care centre, playing ground, kitchen, hostel and other departments. It was informed that the team expressed satisfaction over the administration. Though they will prepare a detailed report and send it to Delhi. Seats may increase at GMCH The MCI team collected information about registration of patients in OPD, number of beds, advanced operation theatre, air-conditioned study rooms in the hostel, lecturer hall and manpower in GMCH. It was informed that there were efforts to increase MBBS seats looking at the increasing number of patients. This will create more opportunities for students of Vidarbha and resident professors will also be added. Patients will also be getting better medical attention. At present, the GMCH has 35 professors, 106 associate professors, 170 assistant professors, 80 resident doctors and 400 junior resident doctors.
