Nagpur: The Nagpur University ( NU ) on Tuesday evening issued a notification for extending admission deadline to September 25 for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Though the decision was made on Monday following outcry by students who cleared their backlog papers in revaluation, another day was wasted in preparing the notification.Students from Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha, and Kamptee, besides city-based colleges, had again visited the NU main building after their institutions told them that there were no official instructions. The aggrieved students were seen standing outside the main administrative building throughout the day. When they approached officials, they told them that the notification would be soon forwarded to colleges. At several colleges in the city, students were turned away because of the same reason.Even after formalities late in the evening, the NU has not clarified how the PG admissions would be done. This year, the PG admissions have been conducted online through centralized process. No directives have been given in the notification for late admissions, excluding those done by various authorities.NU college section officials said they need to seek pro vice-chancellor Pramod Yeole’s permission to initiate the process. Yeole was out of town and therefore, the college section is yet to decide on mode of admission. This oversight is likely to cause further distress to aggrieved students who have been running from pillar to post since the beginning of this month.Another problem students are likely to face is regarding undertaking by principals. In its notification, the NU has asked college principals to forward an undertaking along with admission forms. It wants colleges to own up the task of ensuring the students get the 90-day compulsory teaching. The NU has submitted an affidavit in the high court that it will comply with the University Grants Commission (UGC) norms regarding 180-teaching period during the entire course. The academic session has started from June 15 and classes for odd semesters commenced. Now, colleges will have to hold extra classes post-Diwali vacations for the new entrants as hardly 45 days of teaching are left as per the academic schedule.Acting registrar Neeraj Khaty said the NU won’t accept exam forms if colleges don’t submit undertaking.
