BJP to recommend Cong corporator’s disqualification

Nagpur: Sandip Joshi, ruling party leader in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), said they will discuss and recommend disqualification of Congress corporator Bunty Shelke in the general body meeting on September 24. “We only have powers to recommend disqualification to the state government,” Joshi said.Joshi said the general body meeting will be held on September 24 even if municipal commissioner Virendra Singh is absent. They also launched another campaign — Walk For Nanda Tai — as silent protest against the mayor’s controversial US tour. The activists have planned a rally to Town Hall on September 24.Leader of opposition Tanaji Wanve, and Congress senior corporator Praful Gudadhe have announced plans for a disqualification motion against Jichkar in the house.

Nagpur: Sandip Joshi, ruling party leader in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), said they will discuss and recommend disqualification of Congress corporator Bunty Shelke in the general body meeting on September 24. On a query, Joshi said BJP was also ready to discuss mayor Nanda Jichkar’s controversial US tour, if a motion is tabled by the Congress.On Friday, Joshi and Jichkar along with other NMC office bearers and corporators held a meeting to discuss proposals to be tabled in the general body. One of the proposals is related to disqualification of Shelke for disrupting the general body meeting, and forcing ASHA workers to enter the House. “We only have powers to recommend disqualification to the state government,” Joshi said.Joshi said the general body meeting will be held on September 24 even if municipal commissioner Virendra Singh is absent. “We postponed the meeting twice. There are some important proposals like hike in city bus fare, formation of Backward Class Consultative Committee, and Shelke’s disqualification, so meeting will be held,” he said.NMC sources told TOI Singh is yet to confirm his return by September 24.Youth Congress have started a campaign — Walk For Shelke — to support Shelke. They also launched another campaign — Walk For Nanda Tai — as silent protest against the mayor’s controversial US tour.
