Cop opens fire at history sheeter in self defence

Yavatmal: Countering an attack by a history sheeter during Ganeshotsav duty, a police sub-inspector opened fire from his service pistol in self defence. Sensing danger to his life, Manwar fired one round from his service pistol in which one of the gangsters was injured. Even as the four were assaulting Yadav, Manwar and team reached the spot and rescued Yadav. At Lohara, Manwar and his team spotted a gang of four assaulting a youth with knives. Police team later rushed Manwar, Chavan, who was shot in the chest, and Yadav to Government Medical College and Hospital.

Yavatmal: Countering an attack by a history sheeter during Ganeshotsav duty, a police sub-inspector opened fire from his service pistol in self defence. The alleged accused was injured in the gun shot. The incident took place in Lohara area of the city on Sunday. According to SP M Rajkumar, the anti-gang cell sleuths, led by PSI Santosh Manwar, were patrolling the city to maintain law and order situation owing to Ganesh immersion processions. At Lohara, Manwar and his team spotted a gang of four assaulting a youth with knives. As the PSI rushed to the spot and tried to save the youth from the gangsters, one of the goons attacked Manwar in which he sustained injuries on his upper arm. Sensing danger to his life, Manwar fired one round from his service pistol in which one of the gangsters was injured. The injured youth Deepak Bhayya Yadav (30), a resident of Lohara, had gone to Police Mitra Society where one of his business partners Devidas Chavan and his three associates — Akash Neware, a resident of Lohara, Rameshwar Rathod, a resident of Digras and Rameshwar Punjab Rathod, a resident of Wadgaon — intercepted him in front of Hotel Holiday and attacked with lethal weapons. Even as the four were assaulting Yadav, Manwar and team reached the spot and rescued Yadav. Chavan and Yadav have cases registered against their names in various police stations in the district. Police team later rushed Manwar, Chavan, who was shot in the chest, and Yadav to Government Medical College and Hospital. Manwar was discharged in the evening while other two were being treated. Awadhootwadi police have registered an offence under sections 307, 353, 332 and 34 of the IPC and also under Arms Act and arrested the four. The cops also seized weapons used in the crime from the spot. Manwar had been in news earlier also after he had fired from his service pistol in self-defence when he was attacked by a murder accused in a godown in Arni city, about 35 kms away from Yavatmal, in February last.
