Tiger seen near Ghugus, 20km from any forest

CHANDRAPUR: A tiger killed a goat near the Ram temple at Nakoda village near Ghugus on Thursday. Migration of tiger to industrial and mining town Ghugus, which has no forest within 20km, has shocked the people.Hafizullah from Nakoda was grazing his goats near the Ram temple in the village when a tiger attacked one of his goats and killed it. Forest department is also going to put camera traps on the spot to monitor the tiger’s movement.People in area surrounding Ghugus have been seeing a tiger since last two months. Forest officials have warned people against venturing alone in the secluded area, and have assured to start patrolling in the area. One of it has migrated to Wadner (Hinganghat) in Wardha, while the other has moved towards Ghugus, said a senior officer.

As the grazer raised a din and shouted for help, the tiger fled the spot. Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of forest department was rushed to the spot from Chandrapur and inspected the location.Foresters found pugmarks of the tiger confirming its presence in the area. Forest officials have warned people against venturing alone in the secluded area, and have assured to start patrolling in the area. Forest department is also going to put camera traps on the spot to monitor the tiger’s movement.People in area surrounding Ghugus have been seeing a tiger since last two months. There were reports of tiger sighting around Sakharwahi, Yerur, Belsani and Mahatardevi. All these are non-forest villages around highly industrial town Ghugus, and there is no forest in 20km radius.Senior office confirmed the tiger’s presence and claimed that it is one of the four grown up cubs of the tigress at Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station. The grown cubs have started to disperse since last few months. One of it has migrated to Wadner (Hinganghat) in Wardha, while the other has moved towards Ghugus, said a senior officer. Two other cubs and the tigress are still in villages surrounding CSTPS.
