Nagpur: With a cool and crisp breeze, and a lukewarm Sun rising, connoisseurs of music enjoyed every moment as Kasturi Paigudi Rane, a young vocalist from Pune, performed in ‘Brahmanaad’ programme, organized by South Central Zone Cultural Centre at its Civil Lines facility on Sunday. The early morning Hindustani classical music programme ‘Brahmanaad’ resumed on Sunday after a gap of five months. The event, held on every second Sunday of the month, got a full house as the audience occupied chairs by 6am, half an hour before the scheduled time.Kasturi’s presentations matched the mood of the early hour. Beginning the performance with a bandish in raag Ahir Bhairav, ‘Rasiya mharo aaoji’ in vilambit teen taal, she meandered through the notes to expand it and moved to another bandish ‘Baig baig aao mandir’ in madhya lay.The vocalist selected a bandish composed by Pt Jagannathbuwa Purohit in raag Alhaiyaa Bilawal, ‘Mai le teri lakari le teri kamar’ and followed it with another ‘Ja ja re ja kagwa re’. She ended the classical presentation with a jhoola.Switching on to light music renditions, Kasturi picked up the popular nirguni bhajan ‘Man lago yaar fakiri main’. To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, she presented a medley of a few of Bapu’s favourite bhajans like ‘Vaishnav jan toh’, ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and ‘Payoji maine Ram ratan dhan payo’.The morning recital ended with the popular raag Bhairvi bandish in tarana style — Bhairavi Priyadarshini, composed by Pt Dinkar Kaikini. Accompanying her on tabla was Ganesh Tanwade and Aditi Gadre on harmonium. Both the musicians were also from Pune.Though the performance remained academic and structured, the audience soaked in the environment as it was held in the open, and the chirping of birds added a charm to the presentations. Also seated in the audience was noted classical vocalist Padmaja Phenany Joglekar, who was in the city for a performance on Saturday. The programme began with the lighting of a traditional lamp by SCZCC director Deepak Khirwadkar and other officials. Anchoring by Shweta Shelgaonkar added grace to the event.QuotesThis was a very sublime experience as when the music began the leaves also rustled and the birds began to chirp. I enjoy classical music and this was divine.Suyash Sherekar | Architecture studentThis is the first time I heard Kasturi Paigudi and enjoyed the entire experience of early morning musical recital.
