Nagpur: Happiness is based on how we live and not what we own, said noted speaker Gaur Gopal Das at Deshpande Hall, Civil Lines, on Friday.Das was delivering a talk on ‘Secrets of Happiness’, jointly organized by SGR Knowledge Foundation and Raisoni Group of Institutions.Discarding the importance of material possessions in one’s life, Das exhorted the audience into living a better life than wanting to own more things. He called material possessions dead entities that history has proven will not satisfy us or give us happiness. He advised the audience to accept that we all have problems and that they are never ending. “We sit in air-conditioned room and still sweat, it is because we’re under stress and our mind is not at peace,” he added. He gave tips on how to tackle problems through a CAR theory which talks about changing the changeable, accepting the unchangeable and rising above the unacceptable. About the last tip, Das said that sometimes it is impossible for us to remove ourselves from situations that are unacceptable in nature. On such occasions, it is important to rise above them, hence removing their power over you.Das also stressed upon the importance of having emotional support in life. “Don’t look for someone who will provide you with solutions to your problems, find somebody who won’t let you face the problems alone. Life has all kinds of highs and lows, and people who’ll stick by you during your lows are the people you need in life,” he said.Segregating the people into two segments, Das said that every person has either ‘energy vampires’ or ‘energy boosters’ in their life. The vampires will wish you ill, will be envious and hateful of you while the boosters will love you and always want the best for you. The latter are the kind of people you should surround yourself with.Through an analogy of how food gets stuck in one teeth, and the tongue time and again returns to that same spot to remove the stuck piece, Das explained that while we are focusing on that one tooth, the 31 teeth which are in good condition are getting ignored. The same way, when faced with a bad situation, we tend to forget all the good parts of our life and are obsessed over the one we can’t fix.Das ended his talk by advising the audience to be thankful for what they have.ends
