HC rejects Deepak Bajaj’s bail plea again

NAGPUR: Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Friday rejected latest bail plea of controversial educationist Deepak Bajaj after prosecution opposed it. The HC directed GMCH authorities to discharge Bajaj after conducting all necessary medical tests on him within two weeks. The HC had directed trial court to complete hearing in Bajaj’s case within nine months.This time as well, Bajaj moved HC for bail citing medical grounds and his deteriorating health conditions. Currently, he is behind bars for allegedly having assets disproportionate to known sources of income. Currently, he was admitted in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The Jaripatka Police Station through counsel Neeraj Jawade contended that the sessions court here would be starting hearing on a case pertaining to corruption charges against him from February 7, as per HC’s orders. The HC had directed trial court to complete hearing in Bajaj’s case within nine months.This time as well, Bajaj moved HC for bail citing medical grounds and his deteriorating health conditions. Currently, he was admitted in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The HC directed GMCH authorities to discharge Bajaj after conducting all necessary medical tests on him within two weeks. The officials at Nagpur Central Jail were directed to take care of his health and provide him all necessary help.The city educationist was accused of having disproportionate assets and misusing his position as a principal of Mahatma Gandhi Centennial School. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) booked him and wife Veena under Sections 13(1) E and 13 (20) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, while Jaripatka Police booked them under Sections 406, 420, 438, 471, 34, 168, 120B, 201, 409, 467, 193 of IPC. Currently, he is behind bars for allegedly having assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
