Nagpur: Some 68,160 farmers in the district have benefited from the state government crop loan waiver scheme. The total waiver amount is Rs424.60 crore.Addressing a press conference, guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said these loans had been provided by Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank (NDCCB) (Rs213 crore), rural banks (Rs4.83 crore) and nationalized banks (Rs205 crore).On disbursal of crop loans, the minister said 58,000 farmers had been given Rs592 crore. “NDCCB has disbursed Rs37 crore, nationalized banks Rs542 crore, and rural banks Rs13.29 crore. Crop loan melas were held in tehsil offices every Friday. The district collector reviewed the progress every Tuesday. I kept tab on the process through my Jansamvad programmes,” said Bawankule.In the district planning committee (DPC) meeting, the minister directed all departments who have not spent DPC funds to do so by March 31 so that they don’t lapse. “Departments have spent around 70% on an average. The district is first in the state in spending funds on schemes for tribals,” said Bawankule.“Earlier, Nagpur’s DPC fund was Rs220 crore. However, last year we got Rs650 crore. I am going to ask for another Rs200 crore in the meeting with finance minister on January 19,” he added.
