Min slams Haffkine for non-supply of med equipment

Nagpur: Taking note of the inordinate delay in supply of much-needed equiment to medical colleges in the city, despite payment over one-and-a-half years ago, the district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule slammed Haffkine Bio Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited on Tuesday.Expressing anger over this in a meeting at Mumbai, the minister directed Haffkine manager Sampada Mehta to purchase the equipment through tendering at the earliest.The district planning committee (DPC), Nagpur, had given Rs75 crore to Haffkine for purchase of various equipment. The funds allocated by the DPC to Haffkine include Rs30.37 crore for Government Medical College and Hospital, Rs40.37 crore for Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Rs1.20 crore for Government Dental College and Rs36 lakh for procuring breast cancer diagnosis machines from the mineral fund.The meet also suggested that the power to spend DPC funds for GMCH, IGGMC or GDC should be given to the respective deans.Food and civil supplies minister Girsih Bapat was also present during the meet.
