Wardha: Four persons trying to sell a red sand boa snake have been caught in a trap and arrested by forest officials in a joint operation with Peoples For Animals (PFA), Wardha unit, near Gopuri Square on Tuesday.Ashish Goswami, A PFA activist, said they came to know that a group in the city was trying to sell a red sand boa snake at a high price. “We decided to arrange a trap with forest administration. We had been in talks with the four persons since last three days. Eventually, the deal was finalized for Rs14 lakh on Monday evening,” he said.The four accused were arrested in the act, and remanded to forest custody remand (FCR) for two days, said RFO Sarang Bansod. “We are searching for other persons involved in the illicit business and poaching of wildlife. We may get a link through these four persons,” he said.The four were identified as Ashish Salodkar (23), a resident of Palasgon, Akash Dhanvij (27), Nitesh Chahange (25) and Govind Jadhav (22), all residents of Wardha.“There is a superstition that this snake can find hidden wealth, which is why this snake has such demand,” said Goswami.
