Pumping of raw water from Kanhan reduced by 25 MLD

As a result, the pumping of clear water from Kanhan water works has been affected by almost 25 MLD. The Kanhan water level reduced frequently for which NMC-OCW has to face the problem to serve water supply to Nagpur. Nagpur: Half of the city in north and south Nagpur are all set to face water cut as water level and flow in the Kanhan river has started receding. NMC-OCW has urged the citizens to use potable water judiciously. Against 195 MLD, the Orange City Water is pumping around 170 MLD raw water from the Kanhan river.“Nagpur Municipal Corporation and OCW technical team are working to fulfil the demand from Pench which will may not be possible but it seems that any further fall in the river’s water level will be detrimental to the water supply especially in the northern and southern parts of the city like Nehru Nagar, Satranjipura, Lakadganj and Ashi Nagar zones,” stated a press release issued by OCW spokesperson.The water resources department and NMC’s water works department officials are jointly making efforts to resolve the issue at the earliest and make required raw water available for the city, the release stated.This time the water level in Kanhan has been affected badly due to the under construction Kochhi Barrage near Kochhi village in Khapa.
