Nagpur: A tender scam could possibly be brewing in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) if a ‘L-2’ contractor bags ‘Green Gym’ contract at the instance of Mayor and ‘PA’ of a minister. It is to be recalled that the past three years witnessed an array of diet and other exercise equipment called “Green Gym” installed at several gardens. The installation of ‘Green Gym’ was being done by some ‘select’ contractors at that time. First such Green Gym was set up in gardens near Gandhisagar Lake. But still the NMC administration tries to deprive ‘L-1’ contractor his right under the minister’s pressure it would amount to ‘tender scam,’ sources said.

Nagpur: A tender scam could possibly be brewing in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) if a ‘L-2’ contractor bags ‘Green Gym’ contract at the instance of Mayor and ‘PA’ of a minister. NMC has floated tenders for installation of green gyms in city’s gardens. It is to be recalled that the past three years witnessed an array of diet and other exercise equipment called “Green Gym” installed at several gardens. First such Green Gym was set up in gardens near Gandhisagar Lake. Thereafter, demands started growing from across the city. The installation of ‘Green Gym’ was being done by some ‘select’ contractors at that time. But since the past one year, many other contractors jumped into the ring as cost of maintenance is very less and profit is high. Last week, NMC issued a Rs 3 crore contract of Green Gym. The place has already been decided. In the tender process, several bigwig contractors including a Mumbai contractor took part. This Mumbai contractor is under ‘L-2’ category and is also close to brother of the Mayor. The Mayor allegedly first utilised her contacts and influence but when failed tried to exert pressure through ’PA’ of a minister on concerned official and his senior for award of the contract. The ‘PA’ is allegedly pressuring to cancel the contract of ‘L-1’ category and award the contract half each of ‘L-1’ and ‘L-2’ contractors. It is pertinent to mention that in the open tender competition, ‘L-1’ contractor only entitled to get the award. If ‘L-1’ fails due to any technical shortcoming then the ‘L-2’ is given opportunity. But still the NMC administration tries to deprive ‘L-1’ contractor his right under the minister’s pressure it would amount to ‘tender scam,’ sources said.
