Nagpur: Congress corporator Darshani Dhawad has taken strong objection to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) spending Rs1.25 crore on the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Sammelan to be held in the city. She has dashed off a protest letter to municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar.Dhawad has pointed out that state government has already sanctioned Rs50 lakh for the event. Therefore there was no need for the cash-strapped NMC to spend another Rs1.25 crore. She stated in the complaint that as per Section 66 Sub-section 41 of Maharashtra Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, a municipal corporation can spend only Rs25,000 on entertainment events. The corporator further stated that the proposal has been included in the agenda of NMC general body but the administration has floated tender for works to be done with this amount even before the House clears the proposal.“NMC is unable to clear the bills of its contractors and pay salary to its employees on time. Wasting such a huge amount under such circumstances is not justified. Moreover, floating the tenders amounts to insulting the House. The tenders should be immediately scrapped and an enquiry should be conducted to punish the guilty officers and office-bearers,” she said.
