Amravati: On the last day of filing of nominations on Tuesday, 36 candidates filed 51 nomination papers for Amravati Lok Sabha constituency.Scrutiny of all applications would be conducted on Wednesday, while last day of withdrawal of nominations is Thursday till 3pm.On the last day of filing nominations, candidates made a beeline to the collectorate to file their papers with 18 candidates filing 24 nominations till Tuesday’s deadline. Sitting MP from Shiv Sena , Anand Adsul had already completed the formalities of filing the papers and even started campaigning by meeting with the party workers.Among the leading candidates who filed their nomination on the last day included Yuva Swabhiman Party’s Navneet Kaur Rana , who stole the show after her supporters took out a massive rally from Rajapeth. It would be a repeat of 2014 battle where Adsul had trounced Rana, to emerge as a winner. Like last polls, Congress and NCP would be supporting Rana, who’s wife of independent MLA Ravi Rana. While Adsul’s candidature was already declared by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis during a combined rally where Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was also present, there was no clarity on Rana’s name till last week, as NCP was dangling on other options.Although the poll analysts are predicting a straight fight between Adsul and Rana, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s (VBA) Gunwant Deopare and other are expected to make a dent in the vote share. In 2014, Deopare had finished third while garnering over one lakh votes. Adsul secured 4,67,212 votes in 2014 while Rana polled 3,29,280 votes and won by a margin of 1,37,932 votes.Talking to TOI after filing her nomination, Rana said, “My rally today was the best show staged by any of the contestants this time. My fight is not against any party or any individual,” she clarified.Attacking Adsul without naming him, she said, “The person who has been representing this constituency for last ten years has brought about zero development for the people. He survived on Modi wave last time, but he would lose his deposit this time,” she said.Rana further added, “He (Adsul) takes the credit of the developmental works done by ex-President Pratibhatai Patil . He also takes credit of water conservation works done by ex-MLC BT Deshmukh. I am the resident of this constituency and people here have full faith in me,” she said.
