Nagpur: In yet another deadly mishap, a Zomato delivery boy lost his life after he came under the wheels of a recklessly driven NMC garbage pick up vehicle near Telephone Exchange square on Central Avenue road on Monday morning. Lakadganj police have registered the case against driver as well as BSNL contractor. This is the third such incident in last few months when a Zomato delivery boy lost his life in road mishap. The deceased has been identified as Prashant Dharmaji Sontakke, 43, resident of IBM Nagar in Gittikhadan. Prashant has been working as Zomato delivery boy for about 2 years. He was on his way to delivering a food parcel in Chhapru Nagar where his Activa scooter slipped after hitting an uneven surface formed due to excavation works on the stretch. As Prashant fell off his scooter after losing balance he got crushed under the wheels on the garbage vehicle (MH31 EN0744) speeding from behind. The tipper driver was said to be heavily drunk, following which he could not control the vehicle. Metro rail works along with BSNL’s cable laying works on this stretch have added to the mess on this stretch as the debris is often spread on the road, making it difficult for the two-wheeler riders passing through this stretch. Prashant was wearing the helmet however his head came under the wheels. He died on the spot. Prashant was the sole bread winner of his family of a wife and two children – a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 8 years. After this incident Prashant’s kin have demanded stern action against the erring driver and Kanak Resources Managment, the company engaged in garbage pick up works.
