Nagpur: Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (ORHRI) has a dedicated academic division, which ensures that all personnel are kept abreast of the advancements in their respective fields. A training programme on how to use, handle and important features of Savina ventilator was held recently at OCHRI for all CCU nurses. Suhail Inamdar, Respiratory Therapist, Drager Healthcare was the keynote speaker, who explained the working, settings, various modes of Savina ventilator. He gave demonstration of the machine to the nurses attending the programme. He said Savina is an advanced ICU ventilator for adults and pediatric patients. It has NIV (Non Invasive Ventilation) in all modes of ventilation. He explained about volume mode, pressure control modes with auto flow options and spontaneous breathing available in all the modes to reduce invasiveness of mechanical ventilation. Ankur Jha said that Savina ventilators has BIPAP/PCV+ -Open breathing mode for tailored gas delivery and smooth transition for weaning phase. Dr Anup Marar, Director, OCHRI expressed the need to acquire these lifesaving skills and said these kind of regular trainings to personnel working in critical care sections enhance understanding of the advances in clinical applications of mechanical ventilation. Use of ventilators has remarkably increased over the past two decades, and invasive and noninvasive ventilation has now become an integral tool in the management of both acute and chronic respiratory failure in critical care units. Lecture was followed by a question answer session. Preeti Joseph, Sindhu Rao and all other CCU nursing professionals attached to OCHRI attended the programme. Roy Thomas and Jessy Abraham coordinated the initiative for the benefit of nursing staff.
