NMC warns of stern action against misuse of drinking water

Water connection of a resident of Jay Durga Society in Manish Nagar, using water for construction was snapped after serving notice to him by the civic body. A group of vigilant citizens from Manish Nagar complained to NMC about drinking water being used for construction work, thus misusing it. Civic body to snap water connections of people using Tillu pumps, resorting to other illegal means Nagpur: With water levels in rivers and other bodies supplying water to the city drying up, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has come up with a warning of stern action along with snapping of water connection against those indulged in misuse of drinking water or using drinking water for other purposes. Water connection of a resident of Jay Durga Society in Manish Nagar, using water for construction was snapped after serving notice to him by the civic body. A group of vigilant citizens from Manish Nagar complained to NMC about drinking water being used for construction work, thus misusing it. NMC along with the Water Supply department served a notice to the concerned person and snapped his water connection within two hours. NMC officials said that now the consumer will be issued bill as per commercial rate and water connection will not be restored until he pays the bill. Similarly, NMC and the Water Supply department have decided to take stern action against those using Tillu pumps. A similar action would be initiated against the persons resorting to such means, the NMC has warned. Use of booster pump is a punishable offence, the NMC has stated in a press release issued here. It has further come with a slew of measures to be adopted by the citizens and appealed to them to follow them. The measures include use well waters for cooler, use water other than drinking water to wash cars and other vehicles, use recycled water to clean floors, install tap to every connection and ensure that all the taps are closed after use, carry out instant repair of tap or pipeline if leaking and report any incidence of pipeline leakage to NMC or the Water Supply department.
