Good news for Sr citizens library on wheels soon There is a good news for senior citizens who have urge for reading but cant go to library as for some of them age has become a barrier in physical activities. To help such people in keeping their reading habit alive a novel concept Mobile Library or Library on Wheels is coming soon. South Nagpurs Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Mohan Mate has come up with this idea. Initially only people from South Nagpur can get benefit of this activity. Gradually on the basis of response Mate may try to spread its wings. The book-laden vehicle will keep moving in various areas of South Nagpur providing service to the senior citizens who have special liking for books. The mobile library will initially approach members of various Jyestha Nagrik Mandals and offer them books. Afterwards it will go to every prabhag and establish connect with the people of that area who are interested in reading the books. Mohan Mate while talking to The Hitavada explained “During my election campaign I had interaction with people from all strata all age groups. Through those interactions I came to know several issues several problems related to youngsters women senior citizens etc. I had decided then and there whether I would win the election or not but I would bring projects for the people.” Mate had read about the library on wheels somewhere and he put that concept before friends. He discussed it with some aged people. All of them liked the idea. Mate realised the project would need some money and thought to put proposal before the Government to get some funds. But later on he dropped the idea and decided to do it through his social organisation Madhyam Lokseva Pratishthan. “I did not want the project to be delayed. Had I tried to take the help of Government it would have got delayed. Madhyam Lokseva Pratishthan bought a vehicle wherein maximum books can be kept. We have bought 3000 books on subjects like history culture fictions biographies sports spiritual etc. We will procure some more books. The library will move to the localities handover the books to senior citizens as per their choices. The details of every single activity will be mentioned in the register. The reader will be given eight days time and then the van will come back to collect book. There will be no binding on the readers to read the book in eight days time. They can take more time but the mobile library will keep visiting” elaborated Mate. More books will be added to the library gradually once the concept gets popular and useful. Madhyam Lokseva Pratishthan will urge people to donate books if they can. They can call Shyam Dalal Personal Assistant to Mate on 9822221259 if they want to donate books. Mate feels the activity will be very much beneficial for the senior citizens. If it evokes good response then Mate is thinking of discussing it with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to implement it across Maharashtra. “I am not a voracious reader. But recently I have started reading books and I realised books are our real friends. When one gets older one loses some physical capacity some older people lose their spouses. In such a condition when there is a every chance that loneliness can takeover books can play the role of companion. I cant say how far the concept would succeed but that is not my motto. I only feel through such projects I get satisfaction of doing some good things for the society” expressed Mate.
