After receiving the complain NMC conducted 'panchnama' at the spot and issued show cause notice to Maha Metro. Maha Metro is also widening the parallel road under the same project. But the situation is getting critical and Maha Metro will also take action against the contract company and also impose fine on the contractor” said Akhilesh Halve PRO Maha Metro.

Staff Reporter ; Maha Metro assures to co-operate with NMC in this regard After issuing show cause notice to Maha Metro for illegal felling of trees near Futala Lake the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday lodged an FIR against the contractor of Maha Metro who hacked trees for construction of parking slot. D P Jain Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. bagged the contract for construction of Futala lake beautification project. A group of citizens and environment activists recently raised question over cutting of trees for some construction work near the lake. After receiving the complain NMC conducted panchnama at the spot and issued show cause notice to Maha Metro. Maha Metro is constructing a musical fountain and a viewer gallery at the lake under the beautification project. Maha Metro is also widening the parallel road under the same project. “The number of trees that were hacked by the contractor is unknown but the act was done without seeking permission from Garden Department of NMC” said Amol Chourpagar Garden Superintendent while talking to The Hitavada. NMC lodged an FIR at Ambazari police station. However Maha Metro has to reply to the notice within seven days. Jaideep Das former Honorary Wildlife Warden and environment activist said “We noticed this illegal felling and informed NMC. With this illegal felling the Bharat Van issue again loomed over.” “Activities of illegal felling of trees are growing across the city which is one of the greenest cities of the country and NMC expresses it unawareness. The civic body must be keep vigil to curb such illegal activities” said Das. According to Das the felling of trees took place for construction of parking slot at Futala Lake. “We had no information about the illegal felling of trees. When we asked the contractor he denied any such illegal activity. But the situation is getting critical and Maha Metro will also take action against the contract company and also impose fine on the contractor” said Akhilesh Halve PRO Maha Metro. Halve also said “We have already undertaken many compensatory plantation against trees cut for the Futala project. We will co-operate with NMC on this matter also.
