Lockdown cant be the solution self-discipline is Principal Correspondent : Nagpur administration has brought certain restrictions like asking hotels markets restaurants to bring down the shutters on weekends due to rising cases of COVID-19. It could be a step towards a complete lockdown. Will such closures be the solution to prevent coronavirus? When The Hitavada raised this question with some prominent people in the society all unanimously responded with a big NO. They felt self-discipline can help in breaking chain of this dreaded virus. Sanjeev Sharma Director KNV INCORPORATION said “I have been opposing the idea of lockdown since March 2020 means from first lockdown. Lockdown cant be the solution. There are some of my top doctor friends who told me even World Health Organisation (WHO) was wrong in its earlier perception that lockdown could prevent the coronavirus. In fact because of lockdown our economy got ruined. We have to see both sides. Country like Argentina did take some measures sans lockdown and they proved that they could bring some control over this dreaded virus without lockdown. We must follow them.” According to Aishwarya Verma a student self-discipline can be the solution. “For the last one year we are not able to attend our classes off-line. My sisters who are in schools have to sit all the time in front of computer as they take on-line classes. It is very torturous. When nobody knows how long the virus would survive how could the lockdown be solution? Self-discipline can help in bringing control over this disease. One should have positive approach about life they can take Vitamin C tablets of course with the advice of doctors people should meditate they should wear masks keep social distancing. Administration should take strict actions against the people violating the norms. I think these things could surely help in winning the fight against coronavirus.” Even a well-known medico like Dr Uday Bodhankar noted paediatrician and Executive Director of COMHAD has opposed the very idea of lockdown. Dr Bodhankar feels people should follow the COVID-19 rules. “After first lockdown people took undue advantage of freedom. The parties organised by people is a wrong concept. They should avoid gathering of people at their homes or at any public places. Daily I observe groups of people go for morning walk and gather without following social distancing norms. This is wrong. They are all are educated and must understand the gravity of the situation. Lockdown can break the chain of spread of virus but it is not the permanent solution” stated Dr Bodhankar. Shruti Sharma Group Manager AMAZON felt lockdown was brought with good intentions. “It was the right when implemented last year as it was done to control the spread of the pandemic. But almost irreversible economic disruption resulted in many sectors and also caused a humanitarian crisis for the migrant labor. The novel coronavirus has caused havoc across the world affecting the global economy and infecting millions. It will take time for the vaccine to be administered to all and in the meantime we will have to adapt ourselves to living with the virus. Everyone knows the rules. Wear your mask keep distance do sanitisation regularly. Countries like Japan have managed to keep the virus broadly in check without legal penalties or a formal lockdown. They have been able to do this by inculcating practices like social distancing and proper sanitization in their day to day life” explained Shruti Sharma her point. Ajay Agrawal Secretary of Jaidev Education Society that run J D College of Engineering said “All the educational activities have come to standstill. Students are facing several problems. They are not able to attend the classes. We while running college have lot of concerns about the future of the students. How would they study? How would they write examinations? We run industry also. We are finding ourselves helpless in running our units. With no solution in sight life is looking like hell. Lockdown is the part of handling corona pandemic but it is not a wise step.” Madhavi Vairagade Director (HR and Administration) Jhulelal Institute of Technology (JIT) does cycling regularly. According to her Government should apply strict rules if people are violating the COVID-19 norms. But it should not stop all the activities completely. We at our college are confused all the time amidst COVID situation. There can be ways to hold all the activities. For example we run college so Government should allow students to attend off-line classes may be with the restriction of 50% capacity. There should be strict rules about applying sanitizer wearing mask. If people fail to follow the rules punish them but authorities should not even think about imposing lockdown.”
