Decline in active caseload results in improvement in availability of hospital beds and also in easing pressure on the heavily-burdened healthcare system. With the district recording more recoveries than fresh cases for the fourth day in a row the active caseload dipped by 5190 in past five days.

By Kartik Lokhande : District reports 4987 new cases 76 deaths and 6601 recoveries on Monday COVID-19 situation in Nagpur district appears to be stabilising if the numbers are to be taken into account. For the fourth day in a row the district reported more number of recoveries than fresh cases. As a result the active caseload also has witnessed a reduction. If one considers statistics for last five days -- from April 29 to May 3 -- the active caseload in the district has reduced by 5190. Decline in active caseload results in improvement in availability of hospital beds and also in easing pressure on the heavily-burdened healthcare system. As far as recoveries are concerned 6601 were reported on Monday including 4596 from city and 2005 from rural areas. With these fresh recoveries the cumulative total of recoveries rose to 344245 including 258583 in city and 85662 in rural areas. The good trend of increase in recovery rate continued on Monday too. As a result the cumulative recovery rate of the district rose from 80.51 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 81.12 per cent (reported on Monday). If one considers data released in the past five days -- from April 29 to May 3 (Monday) -- it becomes clear that the district recorded 34830 recoveries during this period as against 30527 fresh cases. In case of Nagpur city alone the number of recoveries during this period was 23388 as against 18041 new cases. However rural areas of the district continue to be a cause of concern as the number of recoveries during the said period was 11442 as against 12431 new cases. Thus in rural areas the cumulative number of fresh cases was more than recoveries in past five days. With the district recording more recoveries than fresh cases for the fourth day in a row the active caseload dipped by 5190 in past five days. The active caseload of the district was 77627 on April 29. As per the data released by the administration on Monday (May 3) it reduced to 72437. For the city of Nagpur too the active caseload reduced from 31477 (data released on April 29) to 31096 (Monday). Thus the city reported decline in active caseload by 381. In case of rural areas the active caseload reduced from 46150 (April 29) to 41341 (Monday) a decline of 4809 cases. As per the data released by the administration on Monday the district reported 4987 new cases including 3161 in Nagpur city 1814 in rural areas and 12 from outside the districts. This increased the cumulative total number of cases in the district to 424357 including 304272 from city 118810 from rural areas and 1275 from outside the district. The daily positivity rate of the district reduced from 26.87 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 24.71 per cent (reported on Monday). The number of deaths reported on Monday was 76 including 48 from city 16 from rural areas and 12 of persons from outside the district. With these new deaths cumulative total of the district rose to 7675 including 4645 from city 1937 from rural areas and 1093 of persons from outside the district. The daily death rate dipped from 2.23 per cent (reported on Sunday) to 1.52 per cent (Monday). As per the data released by the administration on Monday total 20178 tests were conducted in the district of which 16726 were in city and 3452 in rural areas. Of the total number of tests conducted in the district 17655 were RT-PCR and 2523 were rapid antigen tests. So far cumulatively since last year total 2337981 tests have been conducted in the district including 1672728 in city and 665253 in rural areas.
