The Forest Department has appealed to the citizens to contact the department if they spot the leopard anywhere in the city. Whereas the big cat is still elusive and the Forest Department is conducting search and rescue operation 24x7.

Staff Reporter Forest Department installs four cages at PDKV VNIT and Maharajbag to capture the beast A lady worker spotted the wild animal outside the Maharajbag premises The sub-adult leopard that strayed in city three days ago was spotted in Maharajbag area on Monday afternoon by a woman worker. Though the Forest Department put so much of efforts to capture the leopard the wild animal remained elusive on the forth day too. According to Surendra Kale Assistant Conservator of Forest the woman worker spotted the leopard over the culvert crossing of Nag river in the area behind Maharajbag at 3 pm. Thereafter the beast also attacked a stray dog injured it and then vanished into the bushes. Kale said the leopard was also seen by a security guard in Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) campus on Sunday at 10.15 pm. “We have installed two cages with baits at VNIT one cage at PDKV and one at Maharajbag to trap the wild animal” said Kale. It was the fourth day when the team of Forest Department did not taste any success in tracking big cat. The forest officials suspected that the beast was hiding in the bushes or under the culverts and following the Nag river to enter the heart of the city. “We are monitoring the movement of the wild animal and we are expecting that the beast will go back soon through the same route” ACF told The Hitavada. The officer also informed that the department installed more than 10 camera traps at various places and on Monday few camera traps were installed at VNIT and Maharajbag premises also. The Forest Department has appealed to the citizens to contact the department if they spot the leopard anywhere in the city. The leopard was first noticed by couple of residents of Gayatri Nagar near IT Park on Friday morning. Thereafter the wild animal was captured in couple of CCTV cameras in IT Park. Whereas the big cat is still elusive and the Forest Department is conducting search and rescue operation 24x7.
