NMC receives over 30 objections on Day One against tree felling in AjniStaff Reporter :On the very next day after issuing a public notice by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) about felling of 4522 trees in Ajni Vann for construction of Inter Modal Station (IMS) more than 30 objection letters were submitted on-line to the civic body's Garden Department by citizens. The public notice for cutting of trees at a huge number has shocked all environment activists and nature lovers on Sunday. As per the notice Garden Department had asked for objections from citizens about tree felling within seven days. Environment activists protesting for implementation of IMS project at Ajni due to felling of huge amount of trees in the area. The activists also advised to shift the project at Khapri which will help to conserve the green cover of Ajni area.

NMC receives over 30 objections on Day One against tree felling in Ajni Staff Reporter : On the very next day after issuing a public notice by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) about felling of 4522 trees in Ajni Vann for construction of Inter Modal Station (IMS) more than 30 objection letters were submitted on-line to the civic bodys Garden Department by citizens. The public notice for cutting of trees at a huge number has shocked all environment activists and nature lovers on Sunday. Thereafter the environment activists commenced a social media campaign and urged people of Nagpur to express their protest against the felling of trees in such large numbers by registering on-line complaint for next one week. As per the notice Garden Department had asked for objections from citizens about tree felling within seven days. In reply many citizens have sent objection letter to NMC on Monday. The environment activists claiming that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is going to axe 4522 trees of Ajni Vann for their Phase 1 of IMS project which is going to take place over 44 acre of land. However the Phase 2 which will be constructed over 148 acre area in Ajni will take toll on over 10000 trees. “Ajni is the only green cover of South-West Nagpur and felling of such a huge amount of trees in the name of IMS project will destroy our green lung of the city” said Anasuya Kale Chhabrani to The Hitavada. The activists are objecting that the notice has served without conducting any public hearing and the notice has served during lockdown period when people are unable to move out to register complaint physically. After getting objection from the citizens the Tree Authority of NMC will decide the fate of the trees and also would check the technical aspects claimed by NHAI for the project. Environment activists protesting for implementation of IMS project at Ajni due to felling of huge amount of trees in the area. The activists also advised to shift the project at Khapri which will help to conserve the green cover of Ajni area. However NHAI is not in a mood to shift the project outside the city.
