City unites to protect trees on Environment DayStaff Reporter :Various organisations hold joint protest against proposed massive tree felling in Ajni VannThe World Environment Day was observed by Nagpurians by holding a protest on Saturday against the proposed felling of 4522 trees in Ajni Vann. They protested against such a huge tree felling to be initiated by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) soon. Workers of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged silent protest at Ajni against the IMS project which axe 4522 trees in the city. However the Ajni Vann is the only green cover in South Nagpur and every individual must conserve the trees in the locality. Keeping this in mind AAP come forward and showed their support to Ajni Vann on the occasion of World Environment Day on Saturday.

City unites to protect trees on Environment Day Staff Reporter : Various organisations hold joint protest against proposed massive tree felling in Ajni Vann The World Environment Day was observed by Nagpurians by holding a protest on Saturday against the proposed felling of 4522 trees in Ajni Vann. Various organisations came together to show solidarity towards the cause to protect the green cover of the upcoming Smart City. They protested against such a huge tree felling to be initiated by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) soon. Inter Modal Station (IMS) envisages convergence of railway bus and metro and is slated to come up in Ajni. To be constructed over four phases the project will eventually take up about 180 acres in the heart of the city necessitating massive felling of age-old trees of Ajni Vann. Swacch Association Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Railway Mazdoor Union local NGOs and youths jointly protested against the tree felling at Samvidhan Chowk and Ajni Railway Colony area. Workers of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged silent protest at Ajni against the IMS project which axe 4522 trees in the city. The green cover of the city has already decreased drastically in recent years. However the Ajni Vann is the only green cover in South Nagpur and every individual must conserve the trees in the locality. Keeping this in mind AAP come forward and showed their support to Ajni Vann on the occasion of World Environment Day on Saturday. Swacch Association also staged protest at Samvidhan Chowk against the massive tree felling. The members of the Association also raised the demand to shift the IMS Project from Ajni to Khapri. The shifting of the project will save thousands of trees and also reduce the burden of carbon footprint which is going to be increase after the project due to heavy movement of traffic in the city. The Rs 1260 crore project a brainchild of Union Transport Minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project is being developed in Ajni that has a railway station a sprawling railway colony a metro station and a central prison spread over several acres. Under the project the colony will be shifted to another place and the prison moved out of the city. Many other organisations and group came forward on Environment Day and showed their protest by showing placards and banners. Many groups also distributed pamphlets and ran social media campaign on Saturday.
