Centenarian freedom fighter Rajabhau Deshpande no moreStaff Reporter :Veteran freedom fighter Rajabhau alias Prabhakar Lakshman Deshpande who had celebrated his 100th birthday in December 2020 breathed his last on Saturday morning at his residence in Dhantoli here. Rajabhau Deshpande is survived by his wife Sudha three sons namely Ajit (retired High Court judge) Anil (former Ranji cricket player) and Sanjay (businessman) daughter Deepa Khandekar and a host of relatives to mourn his loss. Rajabhau as he was popularly known was a freedom fighter. He had actively participated in revolutionary activities during the nation's freedom struggle. On the occasion of silver jubilee of Indian Independence Central Government had honoured him with a 'Tamrapat' and certificate for his participation in India's freedom struggle.

Rajabhau Deshpande is survived by his wife Sudha three sons namely Ajit (retired High Court judge) Anil (former Ranji cricket player) and Sanjay (businessman) daughter Deepa Khandekar and a host of relatives to mourn his loss. The last rites were performed at Mokshadham. Rajabhau as he was popularly known was a freedom fighter. He had actively participated in revolutionary activities during the nations freedom struggle. At his residence in Dhantoli he had received training in bomb-making from Parimal Ghosh from Bengal. During 1942 Quit India Movement he used his bomb-making skills in what came to be known as Telangkhedi Bomb Case. He was awarded imprisonment for two years in this case. After his release from prison within three years India gained Independence from the British Raj. He married Sudha Patwardhan neice of Dadasaheb Shewde who had fought his case in the court. On the occasion of silver jubilee of Indian Independence Central Government had honoured him with a Tamrapat and certificate for his participation in Indias freedom struggle. He celebrated his 100th birthday in the same house where he was born. On December 4 2020 he celebrated his 100th birthday. Ravindra Thakare District Collector had personally visited Deshpande and greeted him with shawl shreefal and bouquet of flowers.
