The Cabinet on Wednesday gave revised administrative approval for the construction of the hostel at RTMNU premises. The hostel will be meant for the girl students pursuing higher studies from the minority community. While talking to The Hitavada from Mumbai on phone Minister Nawab Malik said “Construction of the hostel will begin soon after completing the tender process and other administrative procedures. The hostel was need of the hour. These girls come from rural areas and have no safe and proper place in city that compelled me to think of developing the hostel.” “Girl students from minority -- Muslim Christian Buddhist Sikh Jain Parsi and Jewish -- communities will get benefited. The decision to build hostels for such students in all districts of the State as well as in university premises has been taken by the Minority Development Department. Accordingly revised administrative approval has been given for construction of hostel at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University” said Malik. Administrative approval has also been given for the construction at a cost of Rs 14.82 crore. Malik explained “Nagpur is a major educational center in Vidarbha. Students from rural as well as urban areas from all districts of the region come to the city to pursue studies. But many students are at a disadvantage due to lack of accommodation. In fact many girl students stop their education due to lack of such facility. For this it has been decided to build special hostels for girls in cities with major educational centers. The hostel in Nagpur will be constructed for girls with all facilities.” “The hostel will be important in the educational work of Nagpur and will give a big boost to the higher education of girls from the minority community in the Vidarbha area” added Malik. The Government decision in this regard has been issued on Thursday and it is available on the website of the Government of Maharashtra www.maharashtra.gov.in.
