Prepare proposal for buying flats for hostel in NIT scheme Dr Nitin Raut interacting with Government officials during visit to NITs Gharkul scheme at Wathoda. Staff Reporter : Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut directed officials of Social Welfare Department to prepare a proposal for buying flats in Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) Gharkul scheme located at Wathoda. These flats can be used for opening hostel for backward class students. He directed Dr Siddharth Gaikwad to immediately seek permission from the senior officials. On Monday Dr Raut visited the Gharkul scheme developed in Wathoda by NIT. He was briefed by Leena Upadhye Superintending Engineer and Dr Gaikwad. At present 25 hostels are functioning in district of which 16 are in rented premises. From the 16 about seven are for boys and remaining 9 is for girl students. Annually Social Welfare Department is spending Rs. 8.49 crores on hostel rentals and for Swadhar Yojana for backward class boys Dr Gaikwad informed the Minister while for girl students the yearly expenditure is of Rs. 7.51 crores. In future the number of students is going to increase and for the same the Gharkul scheme of NIT is most apt. Outright purchase of flats would save yearly expenditure on rentals. NIT has constructed about 448 flats and it can house 2352 students Upadhaye informed the Minister. The housing society also has separate affluent treatment plant and electricity sub-center. Also there is facility for security guards separate library and resident quarters for Warden and hence the Gharkul scheme Dr Raut mentioned further.
