Restrictions eased shops opened but hotels suffering continues By Vikas Vaidya : Absence of political will making matters worse With less number of single day COVID-19 cases Nagpur has started enjoying the Level One category of the pandemic. Obviously Government has eased the restrictions imposed on businesses. However peoples hopes of extended time for business were shattered after reading the new guidelines. The new guidelines have come but it seems those were prepared in half-hearted manner. As per the new guidelines shops of essential commodities can remain open till 8 pm than earlier 4 pm. The gymnasium swimming pool too have been asked to run within certain conditions. Schools colleges are not allowed to function. Moreover hotels restaurants have been asked to down the shutter after 4 pm. The business of the hotels mostly start after 7 pm. In last guidelines those were issued on June 4 Government had given separate timing of 5 pm to 11 pm to hotels restaurant which was welcomed by the hotelier. But this time when everybody was awaiting the notification it came as a shocker as no restaurant or hotel is allowed to remain open after 4 pm. On Tuesday with the relaxation in restrictions people thronged the market areas. After a long time the markets gave a feeling of having life as several showrooms grocery shops and shopping malls remained opened till 8 pm. Mahal Itwari Sakkardara Dharampeth Gokulpeth Jaripatka Sadar Mangalwari Bezanbag Indora Sitabuldi Cotton Market Kamal Chowk Pachpaoli Gandhibag Badkas Chowk Central Avenue Wardhaman Nagar Nandanvan Dighori Bada Tajabad Ayodhya Nagar Jaitala Trimurti Nagar Pratap Nagar Gaddigodam Gittikhadan Zafar Nagar Anant Nagar Narendra Nagar Khamla Bajaj Nagar Shankar Nagar Ram Nagar Ravi Nagar Wadi almost all witnessed crowd till 8 pm. Despite Nagpur registering very less number of cases no leader of Nagpur showed any will to open the restaurants to open the educational institutions to start sports activities. This is making larger impact on overall life system of the people. The restaurant and hotel owners have raised several questions. According to them is there any scientific data that proves that organised hygienic restaurants following all SOP spread more virus than open market Government offices and unorganised sectors which are open all time? Why the restaurants are not given permission to function after 4 pm even with 50% occupancy they asked. On the other hand crowded markets Government offices unorganized sectors street vendors dhabas are allowed to open. Restaurants main business hours are weekends and dinner time. So why close them at that time only questions the hotel owners. According to hotel owners Mumbai has given more relaxation and more powers to district collector to decide relaxation than other cities of Maharashtra. Traders welcomed the scientific order based on positivity rate and occupancy per cent realizing their responsibility as a citizen first and businessman second. Surprisingly no relief is planned for property tax excise fees employees compensation or in any way coming for hospitality sector through the order. Most trained and skilled manpower in hotel industry tourism is making exodus. In several cities despite the new cases are in double digits they are opening their markets but Maharashtra is going too cautious. Tejinder Singh Renu President of Nagpur Residential Hotels Association (NRHA) said “Most neglected sector is further kept aside no relief at all. Despite everyone knowing that the hotels restaurants banquets marriage halls are the most affected ones due to pandemic still not a single paise of relief by the State Government. With such illogical restrictions these businesses will be compelled to carry their activities illegally; does this Government wants this to happen? If they have some scientific data to prove that only restaurants spreads this virus then they should shut all the restaurants permanently then probably according to them our Maharashtra will become 100% Covid safe. It looks like this order is passed by a vengeance which is totally unexpected by any Government. All our members are extremely annoyed and shocked by such a partial order.”
