Pilgrims, bizmen to Ajmer and Pushkar get direct flight from city

Nagpur: Regional carrier Star Air — a Sanjay Ghodawat group venture — begun flights connecting Nagpur to Kishangarh in Rajasthan on Saturday. Kishangarh is a town near Ajmer known for its marble industry and other tourist destinations. It is also known as moonland of Rajasthan.The flight starts from Hyderabad and travels to Kishangarh via Nagpur and takes the return route. The 76-seater Embraer 175 will take off from Hyderabad at 10am and reach Nagpur at 11.15am. It will take off from Nagpur at 11.50 am and reach Kishangarh at 1.20 pm.On the way back, it will start from Kishangarh at 1.50 pm and reach Nagpur at 3.20 pm. It will take off from Nagpur at 3.50 pm and reach Hyderabad at 4.55 pm.The flights will be operated for 3 days (Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays) till October 12 and increased to 5 days from October 14. The airlines expects to get the bulk of passengers travelling to Ajmer and Pushkar (two important pilgrimage spots) apart from business travel due to the presence of the marble industry in Kishangarh, which is half an hour from Ajmer and a 100 km drive from Rajasthan capital Jaipur. Based in Kolhapur, the Sanjay Ghodawat Group also has a stake in other businesses like real estate, textiles, retail energy apart from running a university. The group entered the airline business in 2019 and has its presence in 17 locations, including Nagpur.Bopanna C A, the chief of airport services of Star Air, told TOI that the company won the Nagpur-Kishangarh route through bidding under the governments Udega Deshka Aam Nagrik (UDAAN) scheme for regional connectivity. As much as 90% of the companys operations are under the UDAN scheme, Bopanna said.Star Air at present has eight aircraft, of which 5 are Embraer 145 — a 50 seater plane. These are outright purchases rest are Embraer 175 which have been leased. Ticket bookings for the Kullu-Amritsar route are already available, with half of the seats subsidized. Himachal Pradeshs chief minister expressed the importance of the tourism industry and the governments commitment to improving air connectivity and boosting tourism and economic development in the region.
