Maoist having bounty of ₹2 lakh arrested

Nagpur: Gadchiroli police on Wednesday arrested hardcore Maoist Mahendra Veladi (32, resident of Cherpalli in neighbouring Chhattisgarh), who had a reward of ₹2 lakh announced by Maharashtra government. He was apprehended along the Indravati river.The police acted after receiving a tip off that Veladi is roaming along the Indravati river near SPS Damrancha.Cops claimed that he was in the area with an intention to provide information about movement of special forces to Aheri LOS and Sandra LOS.An anti-Naxal operation was launched immediately comprising of C60 parties, G Coy of 9th BN CRPF, and district police. The forces succeeded in arresting the Maoist from near the Indravati river bank. Interrogation of the suspect revealed that he was keeping watch on special forces. Two days before the murder, Maoists dug up roads in Achinpur and Burka villages. The villagers claimed Ramsu died of a snakebite and cremated his body. Anti-Maoist operations have been intensified in the region.Maoists kill former arms supplier in MaharashtraMaoists killed Chamra Madavi, a former arms supplier and sympathiser, accusing him of becoming an enemy of his sister who is actively involved with the rebels. This incident occurred during the annual Peoples Liberation of Guerrilla Army week and ahead of home minister Amit Shahs visit to inaugurate an iron ore plant. Madavi was picked up by Maoists and strangled to death in the outskirts of the village.
