Oppn: Govt Failed To Act Fast On Farmers’ Woes

Nagpur: Leader of opposition in assembly Vijay Wadettiwar said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has boycotted chief minister Eknath Shindes customary tea party because the state is facing one of the worst agrarian crisis and the government has proved inadequate in solving their problems. Wadettiwar sought complete loan waiver for all farmers. Our farmers are committing suicide due to financial troubles on account of crop loss and not being able to get a proper price for their produce, he said, adding that the cotton farmers were the worst hit and that has eventually led to a shortage of raw material.In Maharashtra, 65% of the cotton ginning machines are not working because of raw material shortage, said Wadettiwar.On the eve of winter assembly session in Nagpur, the opposition leaders said the state government has failed the farmers. Law and order situation is deteriorating and major investments are moving out, Wadettiwar said.The senior Congress leader said when unseasonal rains happened, the state failed to act fast. The government took a long time to start the process of providing relief to farmers, thus compounding their problems. Even now, we have heard that the panchnamas for crop loss are not being done for all. Farmers are taking their lives because of the financial crisis and this government is hosting a tea party, something which should have been avoided, said Wadettiwar.The Congress leader also taunted the government for what it called its failure to act decisively because of lack of authority. Wadettiwar said: This government is a mere puppet and the strings are controlled from Delhi. The top leaders are busy is prostrating before their Delhi masters, hence it is not surprising that the affairs of the state are getting neglected. Citing recent statistics released the NCRB, Wadettiwar said that Nagpur has become the crime capital. We used to call Nagpur a city of oranges. Under this government it seems like a city of thieves with record number of housebreaking cases being reported here, said Wadettiwar. he also expressed concern about the high number of rioting cases and violence against women.Talking about the Maratha-OBC issue, Wadettiwar said: The government is busy stoking hostilities between two communities to hide its failures. On reservation issue, Wadettiwar said the government needs to take a decision. We have already said that emprirical data about castes needs to be collected, he said. Ambadas Danve, leader of opposition in council, said the government will be taken to task over irregularities in the health sector. Unsually high number of deaths were reported in government hospitals in several cities, including Nagpur, a few months ago. There is huge corruption in the health department, where good officials are being sidelined, said Danve.
