This is the most romantic time of the year and in the last leg of the Valentine week , city lovers are busy wooing their existing/prospective partners as each day holds some significance for them. Strangely, this love overdose also leads to more heartbreaks in this lovers' month. That is the reason, a lot of youngsters are seeking psychological help and making a beeline for the counsellors in the Valentine week. We trace this phenomenon...Gone are the days when youngsters would hesitate in getting professional help to deal with love issues. A science student, 20-year-old Sunny Mate (name changed on request), who recently broke up with her girlfriend, says, "I had a painful breakup recently because my former GF refused to trust me. I'm trying to come to terms with this stark reality, but nothing is working in my favour. Also, at this time, when most of my friends are happy in their relationships, I feel like a loner. Tomorrow, I plan to see a psychologist to beat this depression."City-based psychiatrist, Dr Sudhir Bhave , shares that in this month, there has been a tremendous rise in the number of youngsters coming to him for counselling . He adds, "Now the stigma of seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist is fading. Whether it is to deal with the fear of being rejected or to come out of the depression post breakup, many youngsters freely discuss their problems with us. I'm seeing a lot of youngsters battling the breakup blues in this particular month. And this number will increase as we approach the Valentine's Day and will extend even beyond that in the entire Valentine's month."According to another psychologist Dr Anupama Gadkari , compared to boys, girls are more vulnerable in love. Also, they are more willing to seek counselling. She adds, "It is a positive sign that youngsters, especially girls, do not want to bottle up their feelings and have no qualms in seeking professional help to get over their love issues. I'm seeing a lot of girls coming in for counselling post the heartbreaks in this month."Another psychologist Dr Geeta Pedgaonkar says, "At this time of the year, singles, who don't have romantic partners, tend to develop an inferiority complex. Then there are pressures on lovers too, with complaints about lack of expensive gifts or quantum of PDA on social media adding to the pressure, leading to breakup in many cases. Obviously, it affects them psychologically, especially in the Valentine month. So, a lot of youngsters approach us for guidance. We advise them to confide their problems to their parents too and explain that love will enter their lives, yet again. It is not the end of the world."
